Japan – country of long-lived happy lives
It is hard to find an appropriate answer to the question what Japan is number one in the world today.
Number of population over 100 years or older marks the top position in the world. There were 54,397 Japanese citizens aged over 100 in 2013.
While the U.S.A. showed over 50,000 people in the same year, our country seems to occupy the top position, considering the growth of these super-elderlies in Japan.
The rate of fatal cases of newly born babies marked the world minimum, one baby in 1,000 cases, along with Iceland and Singapore.
Furthermore, Japanese super-elderly athlete established a world record in men’s 100 meter race of the World Masters Track and Field among the super-elderly participants of 100 year-old or older.
Similar title records are seen in the group of female elderlies of 95 years or older.
Health, medical industries for expected growth
The total expense that Japan paid for insurance and medical care is 39 trillion yen in a year, while this does not include the fee of sport club, supplements,
specified health foods and physical health examination.
The market size of health and medical industries exceed 100 trillion yen when all of them are included.
It is expected that this field will mark further growth in the future; with the expectation it will serve as a key to activate Japanese economy.
To expand the market to promote economic revitalization
It is necessary to understand that the state of the market of medical industry is different from other industries to expand the market for the promotion of economic revitalization.
The public expenditure of medical expenses is paid from the health insurance, and the government decides the prices.
The same price is applied to the same medicine when prescribed at any pharmacies. The same price is paid even if the same surgical operation is performed at different hospitals.
On the other hand, for supplementary items different scheme is applied, such as drink of specific health foods and sport club fee, different prices are applied depending on shops.
In other expression, while public expenditure of medical expenses is regarded to be the monopoly market determined by the government, other markets permit consumers to choose freel
y from various suppliers.
The introduction of new system is required
It is the essential requirement that, in the free market, consumers must have sufficient knowledge about each service and product.
With regard to the field of medical expenses, it is necessary to commercialize newly developed medical techniques as soon as possible, as it may be connected to the possible export to overseas markets, thus the introduction of new scheme is needed.
